There was a young man named George Parker who worked as a clerk in a shop that sold pens. In those days fountain pens were newly introduced. Due to this, the pens would have some deficiencies in it and the customers would come complaining about the pens not working and getting spoil in few days. The company would never give any guarantee of the pen so the customers were not satisfied.
Parker actually was just a clerk but he had a principle of his own, which he followed with devotion and that was “work in such a manner that your customer is fully satisfied”. Several times he would take home the damaged pens and repair it. He would also contribute his private personal time in doing this. In this way by working regularly on the damaged pens he gathered a lot of information on the fountain pen, to make it work properly. He thought why he can’t make a good and long-lasting pen. After this, he started devoting almost all of his free time in experimenting to make a good, long-lasting and attractive fountain pen; he was truly worshiping his work. In just a short span of days he acquired success in achieving his goal.
Parker quit his job. He started his own factory which produced fountain pens. In a few years his pens got popular and he became the founder of the very famous Parker Company.
Moral: Success is not dependent on the kind of work, whether big or small it solely depends on your devotion to the work from your heart and your hard work. So keep in mind that our work speaks for us and has a great hand in creating our true identity.
